winter sky

Boston has been extraordinarily cold lately, but I didn't want that to stop me from taking some new pictures. I bundled up and went down to the charles river to shoot a winter sunset.
one positive by-product of the cold: a frozen river
the boats are in for winter
someone had their paintbrush out
a tree silhouetted against the fading colors of the day
the clouds were simply incredible
cambridge buildings reflect the sunset
the trees and clouds were the stars of my show
the clouds are trying to eat the buildings. they did not succeed.

a glimpse of falmouth in the winter

I was in falmouth and took the camera down to the harbor and surf drive beach to capture the winter environment of an area better known at summer time.
the gulls don't get as much food in the winter, so they are willing to line up for a photo shoot just to look at the core of your pear
this tree screams winter
I'm not sure this fire hydrant works, but I like the coloring
the classic winter beach scene; such a lack of color, but yet so nice to look at
piles and piles of shells

cambridge creativity

I wanted to take advantage of a gorgeous sunny january day and tried to look at things in a more creative way. I ended up focusing a lot on color and shapes, but also tried to work on viewing things in a more abstract manner.
"waiting for spring", admittedly a bit lonely
lots of lines
"into cambridge" (I really like all of the different modes of transportation being displayed; I guess thats the enginerd in me)
modern stop sign, complete with graffiti
the longfellow bridge is in need of a paint job. fact.
arches and angles under the longfellow
I was trying to capture the amazing shadows coming through the railing
a lovely day for a walk along the charles
a solitary duck on a frozen river...
here is a follow up to the snowy version of this photo that I took one week earlier. which do you like better?

first snow

We were hit with our first significant snowfall in just over a year so I figured I'd take a walk up mass ave from central square to the river to take a look at how the snow changes common objects.
I am a big fan of how snow covers a tree:
