A quick trip to the north end led to my first up close look at the old north church.
I like this sign
maybe I am still on a benches kick...
war memorial
the sky and the birds and the church
this is my attempt at doing something with my photos. my goal is to challenge myself to be more creative with how I view life through the camera. my plan is to present the photos in their original format with only minor editing. I'll do my best to update regularly and share some past work when I am not getting out often enough.

colors after work
With another big snowstorm hitting boston I figured I'd bring my camera into work in case I had a chance to take some pictures. I didn't take any pictures of the snow, but on my way to the T I was captivated by the coloring of the sky and was happy I had the camera.
winter trees framed an incredible sky the snow on the tree highlighted the color the hancock reflected the fading light

something a little different
I start nearly all of my photo adventures in cambridge, moving my way towards some unknown destination. Today I went right to the back bay area and looked to take some pictures I might normally overlook.
I usually aim to showcase color, but something about the collection of earthy tones here caught my eye the hancock building is a mainstay in my skyline shots, but here I isolated the building against the clouds instead of showcasing the pru and little pru from the river I took a closer look at their textures I don't focus much on residences but this picture has me thinking that doors could be a good subject for a photo shoot I like to feature more of a subject in my pictures, but I really liked the coloring of this wall though I'd never noticed them together, I was captivated by how these two buildings blended I don't particularly like this picture, but this doesn't really look like boston, right?

a winter night
After missing out on the last few weekends, I decided to take the camera and tripod out to the longfellow bridge on a tuesday night. This is an area I have photographed many times before, so I tried to do view things a little differently.
the squiggly line on the right is a bicyclist a taxi turning onto memorial drive a train goes over and a car goes under the longfellow in slightly abstract form driving at night

benches
I asked courtney to give me a subject for a photo project today. She chose benches, which happen to be one of my favorite everyday items to photograph. I patagonia'd up and headed to the boston common and boston garden to see how I could creatively frame the bench.
a ring of benches around the boston common fountain so many nice places to sit up close and personal the perfect seat to watch the ducklings (and the many children trying to get a ride from the ducklings...) a collection of patterns one of my favorite views in the garden this path is littered with benches of all styles the stained wood bench is my favorite benches as far as the eye can see

winter sky
Boston has been extraordinarily cold lately, but I didn't want that to stop me from taking some new pictures. I bundled up and went down to the charles river to shoot a winter sunset.
one positive by-product of the cold: a frozen river the boats are in for winter someone had their paintbrush out a tree silhouetted against the fading colors of the day the clouds were simply incredible cambridge buildings reflect the sunset the trees and clouds were the stars of my show the clouds are trying to eat the buildings. they did not succeed. storrow drive in motion

a glimpse of falmouth in the winter
I was in falmouth and took the camera down to the harbor and surf drive beach to capture the winter environment of an area better known at summer time.
the gulls don't get as much food in the winter, so they are willing to line up for a photo shoot just to look at the core of your pear this tree screams winter I'm not sure this fire hydrant works, but I like the coloring the classic winter beach scene; such a lack of color, but yet so nice to look at piles and piles of shells

cambridge creativity
I wanted to take advantage of a gorgeous sunny january day and tried to look at things in a more creative way. I ended up focusing a lot on color and shapes, but also tried to work on viewing things in a more abstract manner.
"waiting for spring", admittedly a bit lonely lots of lines "into cambridge" (I really like all of the different modes of transportation being displayed; I guess thats the enginerd in me) modern stop sign, complete with graffiti the longfellow bridge is in need of a paint job. fact. arches and angles under the longfellow I was trying to capture the amazing shadows coming through the railing a lovely day for a walk along the charles a solitary duck on a frozen river... here is a follow up to the snowy version of this photo that I took one week earlier. which do you like better?
